If you've filed a green card, work permit, or immigration petition with USCIS, you're probably wondering: Who's handling my case, and how long will it take? Knowing which USCIS service center is processing your application is key to tracking progress and estimating timelines.
Here's how you can find out.
1. Check Your Receipt Notice
When USCIS receives your application, they'll send you a Form I-797C Receipt Notice. Look at the first three letters of the receipt number in the upper corner. These letters indicate the service center:
|
Prefix |
USCIS Service Center |
|
EAC |
Vermont Service Center (VSC) |
|
WAC |
California Service Center (CSC) |
|
LIN |
Nebraska Service Center (NSC) |
|
SRC |
Texas Service Center (TSC) |
|
MSC |
National Benefits Center (NBC) |
|
YSC |
Potomac Service Center (PSC) |
|
IOE |
Electronic Immigration System (processed online, usually by NBC or others) |
Example: If your receipt number is SRC2290123456, your case is with the Texas Service Center.
2. Log Into Your USCIS Online Account
If you filed your case online or linked your paper filing to your USCIS MyAccount, you can often see where it's being processed. Just log in at my.uscis.gov, add your receipt number, and look under case history or notices.
Cases with IOE receipt numbers are processed electronically but still routed to a specific USCIS center—your account may show where.
3. Match Your Filing Location and Case Type
Not sure where your case was routed? You can estimate the service center by:
- Checking where you mailed your forms, and
- Cross-referencing your form type and your state of residence with USCIS's “Where to File” page.
Once you determine your service center, you can check current processing times using the USCIS online Processing Times tool https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times
Bonus Tip: What If It's Taking Too Long?
If your case is outside of normal processing times, you may be eligible to:
- File an online case inquiry
- Request expedited processing
- Contact USCIS customer service at 800-375-5283
- Or, in some cases, consider congressional assistance or legal intervention
